Credit to clymoj...this is the view under his bus

The great question is which came first Devon or Westfalia. This was shown at the 1961 Earls Court Motor show showing the 1962 MY range. The Devonette was the cheapest VW camper at £819.

We are still looking for more information and parts...We have Placed an ad on the samba

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... id=1505377

I have a 1962 narrow rear hatch standard microbus converted by Devon Conversions into a Devonette Camper.
I have the full width rear seat back, the high level plain shelf, the hardboard cover for the engine panel, the rear drawers and the pole mounted table,

I am missing the full width rear seat base, The side seat/ pull out bed, the tall narrow front cupboard and the spare wheel table mount (Westfalia pole table style)

I would like to buy any Splitscreen Devon Conversions Devonette Interior furniture pieces.

I wish to find pictures, OG photos, drawings, or dimensions of the missing parts

The 1961 Motor show Devon advertising photos showed a Kombi with the cooker on the front door and then the 1962 MY brochure showed a standard Microbus with cooker on rear door. These only show general views fom the side.

The other pictures show the 1963 brochure details inside with the cooker mounted on the front cupboard, I am looking for any pieces or details....

You may have such an interior and not know what it is..

Well we are still looking for information on 1961/62 Devonette...
Have no factory brochure pictures for the inside of the 1962 Devonette..
bar for those above...
No idea if the early Devonette cupboard was the same width as the early 1958/59/60 cupboard or the wider 1962 Caravette cupboard...Still looking for a non-dinette layout Devon...

Does anyone have any early 1961/62 Devon Camper pictures...
We now have a 1963 devonette rear seat..to either resurrect or develop a full width clone...

We have a 1961 front cupboard and a 1962 sink unit for reference...

Now have a Devonette rear seat.....
This one was from a Dinette style Devonette and shows the cheaper construction used...
This was left over from a complete Devonette interior painted in grey paint. The front cupboard and rear drawers fautured on a thread and was bought by mdsa. When cleaned it up came up really nice.

viewtopic.php?f=46&t=84464&hilit=devonette

The rear seat was put up for sale by a trader in the County Durham area.....near to maddison and he contacted me to let me know...

I bid and won it at the starting price and maddison even collected it for me and kept it for me to collect when I was coming back from Scotland.

The rear seat from the set is in quite a state and has rotted at the bottom and delaminated but it will serve to act as a template to copy the supports underneath and get the dimensions right. I will be making a full width seat so will just be extending the dimensions.

Pictures from eBay and seller...
This is exactly like WAR201 but bad condition. Strange bar down the front which would be like used on the front of a 1962 Devonette..

In the background Matt n Dave have been busy....
Mechanicals all stripped off the body.. Assessment carried out and "starter" metal work from Autocraft bought ready to start on the body.....which is in an awfull state but saveable..
I have a donor LHD roof ready for conversion and transplant into RHD..will need some panels made by Karl...he is good at these having done a couple for Dave.
Have an extra fuse box bracket from markP and engine lid stay ready for refurb..

Cargo doors and cab doors under restoration...Will post pictures..

Rusting Hulk (Simon) has my spindles for refurbish .. bushes for king & link pins seem to be OK. I have set of 20mm link pins...less one bearing which I am trying to source. He is restoring Sherry's steering box which has only done 54k and is in much better condition than the one he did for our Peebles! Have Waso CSL lock and Steering column lock to be fitted but need to check dimensions of where to cut the hole.

Have a massive Excel project Management spreadsheet running of what we need and what we have got..
Been collecting....bits for the fit out..ordered two of everything with my delivery from WCM..especially seals..
Have a "To order list" which I am picking off...bit by bit respecting lead times..

Have refurbished speedo and fuel gauge, have another set of four gauges made in the states and got another motometer bracket and dakota CHT, have 62 loom and auxillary loom and all split charge electrics...made by Peter Good. Have twin OG fuse boxes. Have an NOS 12v wiper motor and NOS wiper arms..
Have 62 hump backed front bench seat refurbished by Dave, Shotblasted, powder coated and blown over, trimmed by Bromsgrove..
Have duracouresque material for interior ...ready for Joanne's magic
Have a part set of interior panels but may get Steve to make more than just the door and cargo door panels..
Looking for an ARB and some white mud flaps and lots more..
Have some OG NOS Aftermarket mirrors and refelctors...too good for Peebles!
Want some Doris bumper brackets..???
Anyone..

Oh and planning engine 1200cc refurb this time...for slow me in my old age..
Have refubished shotblasted and powdercoated OG wheels - came up much better than I dreamed...
Have NOS VW hubcaps..

Bought twice the quantity of SS fixings I needed ...

So what next..
Oh pictures of a 62 interior....from every angle..
Have a man lined up to make parts for me..
Rear drawers being restored..so will look OG...

Well it had to come to it!

Image

It was windy...out came the tin opener..
Has been separated from the roof bows which may need to be re-used
Is in the items for sale section cost...well anything!

The bus as said somewhere had been a major smash down the NS LHS..
The front clip, lower corner, cab door, Dogleg, B post cargo door and as we discovered the short side had been replaced. Short panel held by pop rivets!

Lots of worrying pictures to follow..
Top down resto..roof replacement first!

If you do not like bus blood and guts do nor reply or watch for the next instalment..
Dave and Matt have the skills and have repaired worse....in several areas...in several buses...but not all at the same time..
Oh and anyone got a complet OG LH A post or KF-27?
Going to need one!
Watch this space!

As a student back in the 90's, I had a Bay window Devon Devonette - 1972 model(early front, late back).

As you say, it was very basic. No pop top. Chipboard cabinets. Middle seat had a back that you could lift up, and it would face either forwards or backwards. Rear seat was two across, with a cooker and sink at the side. And that was pretty much it. Oh, and it had a Devon Devonette sticker on the dashboard above the radio. To be honest though, although basic, it was nice and simple. Who needs wardrobes and extra cupboards?
